Week 2

Week 2 Class News

Wow! We have had a busy week! We have started a new genre assignment, reading assignment, completed some problem solving in Maths as well as completed the ancient history assignment from last term.

In week 2 we are starting graduation prepartation. All the year 7 students need to start bringing in photos to create a photo slide that will be shown during their presentation at graduation. The class will be put into alphabetical order and each student will prepare a speech about their nominated person. The students will interview the person they will be speaking on behalf of and then publish this as a speech. Graduation is on Wednesday, 12th December 2012. There will be more information  and a letter home about this over the next couple of weeks.

Last week we commenced out Japanese lessons at Modbury High School. They occur at 1.30pm Tuesday and will run through out term 4. The class will also have the opportunity to use the resource centre which has been renovated over the past term. It is open space with new technology being utilised. It has soft furnishings which make the centre a great place for learning.

Over the next 3 weeks (excuding 26th October because that is our pupil free day) , students will be partaking in basketball clinics. Amazing Achievers will have a 45 minute session on a Friday! We also welcome back for their 2nd week, Hayley and Christy who are 2nd year pre-service teachers. We have been doing lots of fun lessons in English, Science and Studies of Society and Environment!

Feel free to drop in and see us any time!
Regards,

2012 Homework Expectations

Homework expectations for students in Amazing Achievers
Homework

Homework is an essential part of learning and often helps to consolidate skills and new learning’s from lessons and activities. In the middle years of schooling it is important for students to gain some organisational skills from completing homework. I would like to see students spending 40-60 minutes on homework each day from Monday to Thursday.

Part of the homework includes reading. This is an essential daily requirement and they can do this aloud to you or to themselves. We are participating in the Premiers Reading Challenge and in order to complete this all students must read twelve books for their year level.

The Word Study Programme needs to be completed continuously. Students will be tested on the words at the end of the week. Students have a contract to complete for their weekly words.

Another important area is Mathematics. At this level they must learn each timetable for immediate recall. Students will be tested on their times tables in class at various times. Students will be required to complete tasks set from lessons and should be consolidating their skills with at least 15 minutes practice a night. Other homework will include English, History and Science. If your child is unable to complete their homework, please send a note in your child’s diary.

Diaries will be filled in every morning with homework and other notes when needed. Diaries will need to be signed weekly, and this will be checked on Monday.
